"You may think you are familiar with Beth's wonderful storytelling gift but this is something new! It's a story of how God can redeem the seemingly unredeemable. It's a message the world needs to hear." --Sheila Walsh, author of God Loves Broken People
About The Author Beth Wisman is a Carol Award Winner, Inspirational Readers Choice Winner, INSPY Winner, and the best-selling author of the Daughters of the Promise series and the Land of Canaan series. All of her books have held spots on the ECPA (Evangelical Christian Publishers Association) bestseller list and the CBA (Christian Book Association) bestseller list. She grew up in Houston, Texas and now resides in a small town west of Houston with a population of around 300. She lives with her husband, two dogs, two cats, two pot bellied pigs, two chickens and a pygmy goat. Her two grown sons also live in Texas. Beth has been writing in some capacity for most of her life. She's a former award-winning journalist with eleven honors, including 'First Place News Writing' for The Texas Press Association. However, writing love stories with a spiritual message is where her heart is. When Beth isn't writing (which is seldom these days) she enjoys traveling, cooking, fishing, reading, or just settling in for a good movie. Her best times are spent with family and friends!
MY THOUGHTS After I discovered Beth Wiseman a year ago, through Amish fiction, I have waited for each new book to make an appearance. I was surprised when I realized that this book ventures from the Amish fiction genre to a Contemporary genre and she does it beautifully. As I high school teacher I felt a strong connection with the issues depicted in this book. These issues are relevant to families no matter where they are. The family from the story live in a tiny town, yet you can find this same story happening in a large city. It was the kind of book I could not put down once I started reading. I actually wanted life to just stop and let me be a part of the book. The message and the outcome are so very important and help the reader see just how important God is in their lives. I give it a four star rating and would encourage all my readers to go grab a copy today. I promise you won't regret it.
Disclosure of Material Connection I received this book free from Thomas Nelson and The B&B Media Company as part of their Blogger Review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255 "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."
Beth Wiseman is mostly known as a best selling author of Amish Fiction. In her new book, Need You Now, she tackles life in a small Texas town located a little over an hour away from Houston. The family dynamic is believable to the reader. Darlene and Brad are parents of three children ranging in age from twelve to seventeen.
I appreciate that the author brings out difficult situations like raising and caring for a special needs child and balancing that care with looking out for teens and their issues. The family is not portrayed as a perfect Christian family although they call out to God in prayer for their daily trials as well as heart breaking events.
Many things that parents are concerned about are also dealt with such as teen friendships and dating, drinking, drugs, and 'cutting'. The 'cutting' issue hits home with many teens and parents who do not understand the thought process behind the actions. Mrs. Wiseman offers up a storyline that is helpful to readers who are currently dealing with this.
Darlene and Brad are so busy providing for the family and being parents, that they forget to be a couple. The story brings to light how couples must guard their hearts and spend time together. This is a great read.
This is the story of the perfect family. They have three wonderful children. They aren't rich, but they have what they need. They are willing to do what it takes to keep their children safe, including moving to a small town with a 1 1/2 hour commute for Darlene's husband. They are the perfect family - ripe for hidden trials.
I have really enjoyed this first half of the story. So many families strive to protect their children through the teen years, and feel they have succeeded, only to find the trials have just begun. Darlene's family is one of these families. They are strong in their faith, attend church and live good lives - in essence, they are doing everything they are supposed to be doing. And yet, as they start to grow, and feel a little bit comfortable in their new life, the real trials come to light.
I have watched as families do what they need to do to help a teen through a difficult time with wrong choices, only to find out that the child they "didn't need to worry about" is into something just as dangerous. This story is a heart-breaking reality. With no holds barred, Beth is telling it like it is for so many families today. I'm so involved with this story that I'm rearranging my reading schedule to be able to finish this book right away.
I didn't get to this book in the days before pre-launch, so the good news is that you can immediately get a book and join me in this tail of faith, teens, marriage, trials, love, and the power of the family. I'm rooting for the Hendersons to find the strength to overcome and heal in this story. Join me in finding out!
when you buy beth wiiseman you know you are buying the best.. it was a joy to read. i will buy her books every time.
enjoyable reading It was a little different story line than a lot of Beth Wisemen's book I was ready to start on Part 2
I had read Ms. Kingdbury books before but I did not know what to expect with this one... I was not dissappointed. i really enjoyed it from a working mothers point of view and from a parent with an autistic child. I could relate but mostly I enjoyed the triumph of the marriage. I was crying before i knew it. I highly recommend it.
I did enjoy the book, but at times the main character repeated the same message. Would like to have had a bit more involvement.
I recently finished reading this book. I can't wait to read the rest of the story! It was wonderful! I highly recommend this book even though it's a "teaser" and you have to wait till April to read the conclusion and find out the ending.
